COMMON TOOL CATEGORIES

Part 3 of 7

CHOOSING THE MINIMUM VIABLE TOOL SET A professional habit is to give an agent the smallest set of tools that lets it do its job. Every extra tool adds context cost, adds a chance of the model choosing wrongly, and adds a path for attackers. Ask three questions for each candidate tool. Does the agent's purpose truly require this category? Should the tools in this category be read-only, or must some be action-capable? What is the guard that fits its risk? This is the principle of least privilege from Chapter 12, applied to tools.
