ENDING A RUN

Part 6 of 10

A WORKED WALKTHROUGH Follow one run from its last step to its record. An agent was asked to collect four documents for a customer. After many steps it has found three of them. The fourth, a signed contract, does not exist in any folder the agent may search. A careless agent might say that it is finished. A well-built harness notices that the success criteria require four documents and that only three are present, so it refuses to mark the run as complete. The agent then writes a structured failure report that lists the three documents found with their locations, names the missing contract, lists the places it searched, and suggests that the customer be asked to upload it. The harness records the cost and time, closes the open connections, and returns the report to the user. A person reads it and acts in under a minute, which is the whole purpose of a good ending. HANDING OFF TO THE NEXT AGENT When another agent will continue the work, the ending must be written for a reader with no memory of the run. Include the goal, the current state, the files produced, the open problems, and the single most useful next step.
