WHY OBSERVABILITY MATTERS

Part 6 of 10

FROM OBSERVATION TO ACTION Seeing a problem is only the first half of the work. The second half is acting on it, in a steady loop. Observe a problem in production, find its cause in the trace, fix the harness, add a test so that it cannot return, release the fix, and watch the numbers to confirm the improvement. Teams that run this loop every week improve their agents far faster than teams that only watch dashboards. Treat observability not as a decoration but as the front door of every improvement. OBSERVABILITY FOR BEGINNERS: A SHORT CHECKLIST Use this checklist when you build your first harness. Does every run have a unique identifier that appears in every record? Can you see every model call and every tool call, with timing? Can you tell, for any run, whether it succeeded, failed, or was handed to a person? Do you know the average cost of a run and the cost of the most expensive run? Are secrets and personal details kept out of the records? Do you look at the data on a regular schedule? If you can answer yes to these six questions, your agent is already more observable than many real products.
