THE SAFETY ARCHITECTURE

Part 9 of 13

PUTTING THE LAYERS TOGETHER Return to the stack. A request arrives. The prompt-level guardrail tells the model to decline harmful requests. If the model is fooled anyway, the schema gate means the dangerous tool was never offered. If somehow it was offered, runtime approval pauses for a human. If the human is rushed and approves, tool-level validation still refuses an out-of-bounds argument. And a hook logs everything and may raise an alarm. Each layer is imperfect, but together the chance that a harmful action reaches the real world becomes very small. AUDITING FOR GAPS To find weaknesses, list your safeguards and ask for each dangerous action: how many independent layers stand between the model's wish and the real-world effect? If the answer is one, you have a single point of failure and should add layers.
