TYPES OF AGENT MEMORY

Part 9 of 10

CHAPTER SUMMARY Short-term memory is what sits in the context window, and it is limited and temporary. Long-term memory is stored outside the model and loaded selectively into later runs. Episodic memory records specific events, while semantic memory holds general facts, often extracted from episodes. Promote an episode to a lasting fact only with enough evidence, and record confidence and source. Cross-session continuity lets an agent resume work without re-explanation, but it requires careful saving, loading, conflict handling, and privacy protection. KEY TERMS REVIEW Context window: the limited text a model reads at once. Short-term memory: what is currently in the context window. Long-term memory: durable information stored outside the model. Episodic memory: memory of specific past events. Semantic memory: memory of general facts. Procedural memory: memory of how to do things. Session: one continuous interaction or run. Cross-session continuity: remembering across separate runs.
