ETHICS AND SOCIETAL IMPACT

Part 2 of 13

TRANSPARENCY WITH USERS People have a right to know when they are dealing with an automated system. A chat window should say plainly that you are talking with an artificial intelligence agent, from the very first message, so that nobody mistakes it for a human employee. When an agent contributes to a decision about a person, such as screening a resume, say so, explain in simple words what it did, and offer a route to a human who can review the outcome. Many places have rules about automated decisions in areas such as hiring, and those rules change, so check the current rules that apply to you with a qualified professional instead of relying on this book.
