APPENDIX H: RESUME PORTFOLIO BUILDING CAPSTONE PROJECTS
Part 20 of 56
CHECKPOINTS
Checkpoint 1, after step 10: the size guess works on a tiny example.
Checkpoint 2, after step 18: the invented documents exist and each has a marked fact.
Checkpoint 3, after step 22: a full run finishes, the notes hold all six facts, and the log shows compaction.
Checkpoint 4, after step 25: the restart test proves that no finished document is read again.
Checkpoint 5, after step 28: you have seen the test fail when compaction is turned off, which proves the test is really measuring something.
COMMON MISTAKES AND HOW TO FIX THEM
Mistake: the run never ends and stops with the step limit message.
Fix: check that the notes file is being written, because the mock decides what to do next by reading the notes, so a missing note makes it repeat itself.
Mistake: the restart test reads all six documents again.
Fix: make sure the test deletes only the notes at the start, and that add_note is appending, which means the file is opened with the letter a and not the letter w.
Mistake: no compacted event appears.
Fix: confirm that TOKEN_LIMIT is 2000 and that make_docs.py wrote the long filler.
Mistake: ImportError for notes or gate.
Fix: confirm that gate.py and tools.py were copied into the new folder.
Mistake: the answer file lists facts without file names.
Fix: check the format of each note line, which must begin with the document name followed by a colon.
